Words From Our Professors

“I teach ecology and ecotoxicology. In both of these courses, an important objective is to acknowledge human impacts on natural populations, and to understand that ecological principles relate to our own life support systems, and that natural system provide vital ecosystem services to humans. Understanding consequences of environmental change and identifying viable solutions is a multi-tiered and interdisciplinary challenge that is critical to our long term persistence. To solve these complex issues, I firmly believe in the need for diversity of ideas. In order to achieve this, finding ways to promote diversity in the field is paramount and I will spend my career doing whatever I can to facilitate this effort.”
Dr. Jessica Hua
Professor

"As a society we must strive for positive change in all aspects of our lives, for all people. The coming century will present challenges that we as human beings will struggle with, and our first step must be to understand our world and these challenges. Positive change is solving these challenges, be they environmental, social, political, or economic for the betterment of all peoples and to strive towards prolonged and sustainable growth with respect to the quality of life for all humanity. The courses I teach serve a fundamental role in helping to develop student understanding of the natural world, which, in conjunction with other disciplines, provides the footing needed to begin attacking these challenges head-on."
Dr. Steven Murphy
